Few Layoffs in NC in August

According to the Charlotte Business Journal, August was a relatively kind month in terms of layoffs in North Carolina. Only one Worker Adjustment Retraining Notification or WARN was posted in NC in August.

So far this year, layoffs have potentially impacted 3,865 employees across the state. August 2014 impacted 618 employees, and by September 2014, layoffs had already impacted more than 5,000 people. …
But WARN filings don’t tell the full story. Companies are only required to disclose layoffs to the state if a plant closing will impact at least 50 employees during a 30-day period or if a mass layoff will impact at least 500 employees — or between 50 and 499 if those laid off make up at least one-third of the employer’s workforce.
