Vintage ceramic jack-o-lanterns are a nostalgic and creative way to make a fun Halloween tradition.
Part of the fun of holidays for me is remembering holidays past. This holds true for Halloween too. Many of us have great memories of watching It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown or more recently Hocus Pocus with Bette Midler. I can recall some fun Halloween trick-or-treating and coming home to sort and trade our candy. You felt rich with a candy stash that would last a week or so!
When I was growing up, my grandfather was semi-retired. He had a big garden and a ceramics workshop that kept him busy. I’d call it a business and I am sure he made some money on it but it was really a hobby. It was a great way for my grandparents to make some extra money but it was a labor of love. My grandparents made the electric ceramic jack-o-lantern pictured above.
Like many of you, I can get behind the cozy autumn decor items from popular shops like Pottery Barn or West Elm to just name two. I love, love, love to add natural items like pumpkins, gourds, fall leaves, plants, and flowers. While the ceramic jack-o-lantern may not “fit” with the stylized decor we see in magazines, it adds a nostalgic warmth to our fall decor.
