Looking at this self-made billionaire, one would think that Oprah has it all figured out. Learn her career advice for millennials.
In this Inc. article, Oprah shares that it’s not about, “what do I want to do with my life?” Rather, it’s about taking the next right step for you right now and letting life be an adventure as you play is smart while following your bliss.
From the article:
“The way through the challenge is to get still and ask yourself, ‘What is the next right move?’ Not think about, ‘Ooh, I got all of this to figure out.’ What is the next right move? And then from that space, make the next right move and the next right move … then you won’t be overwhelmed by it, because you know your life is bigger than that one moment.”
I love that quote: Your life is bigger than that one moment.
The trick with this perspective is that it requires the ability to reflect back. My 40 year-old self can tell my 20 year-old self that NOW… but when I was 20 I was trying to pull together a five year plan that would help me reach my life goals. They say, “Man plans; God laughs.” My career has been an adventure, so I guess that I’ve applied Oprah’s philosophy without knowing it.
