One of my favorite things about Christmas is the feelings of nostalgia that comes from unpacking and displaying well-loved, vintage ornaments. Many people keep ornaments year after year and have special collections. I collected a few vintage Waterford Christmas tree ornaments this year! Thanks, eBay!
Our neighborhood is called Waterford. It was built in the late 80s and gets its name both from region in Ireland and the famous crystal glass maker located there. The streets are named for towns around Waterford and most are also Waterford Crystal patterns. We decided to collect the Kylemore pattern. It’s a fun connection to our house and its namesake.
A lot has changed since the late 80s. Waterford doesn’t make the Kylemore pattern any longer. Most of Waterford Crystal isn’t made in Ireland any more either.
At some point this year in my eBay search for the Kylemore crystal pattern, I stumbled across Waterford Christmas Tree ornaments. It turns out that Waterford once made Christmas tree ornaments with details that echoed their famous crystal patterns. Over the course of the year I managed to pick up several Christmas tree ornaments by Waterford in the Kylemore pattern. A close up of one is pictured above. Check out this video of a tour of our Christmas tree featuring a few of these ornaments.
